Description

PURPOSE:

 

To provide an educational atmosphere in which students will develop intellectual leadership and physical skills consistent with the philosophy, goals and objectives of the district and the Navy Junior Reserves Officer Training Corps/Naval National Defense Cadet Corps.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

 

  • Teaching the prescribed four-year curriculum.
  • Instructing in military drills.
  • Counseling students in the NJROTC/NNDCC Program
  • Writing/updating lessons plans for the NJROTC/NNDCC curriculum and other lesson preparation requirements.
  • Mentoring cadets and assisting with higher education or employment opportunities and goals.
  • Planning and conducting year round extracurricular activities for the NJROTC/NNDCC units (including color and honor guard ceremonies, drill team and rifle teams competitive meets, field trips, basic leadership training, etc.).
  • Preparing periodic reports on program administration and logistics.
  • Making annual presentations at incoming schools for the purpose of recruiting new cadets into the program.
  • Establishing contact with civic groups to obtain their recognition and support of the NJROTC/NNDCC program.
  • Keeping current on new developments and organizations within the appropriate branch of service.
  • Assessing unit progress to assure that the NJROTC/NNDCC program objectives are met.
  • Attending military sponsored training to keep abreast of current requirements of program management.
  • Taking courses of instruction to improve teaching abilities.
  • Establishing rapport with school counselors and faculty members.
  • Maintaining financial accounts of operating budget.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Associates degree from accredited college or university within 5 years of employment.
  • Verification of retirement from the Coast Guard, Navy, or Marine Corps.
  • Possess or are eligible for certification by the Navy as a Naval Science Instructor.

 

 

 

DUTY YEAR AND SALARY:

 

Salary is based on the minimum salary established by the Navy Service Training Command plus local increments.
