Description

Assesses, plans and implements physical therapy services for children from birth to 21 and provides consultation to parents and team members.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

 

  • Screens and evaluates children birth to 21 to determine needs for physical therapy. Ability to apply skills to school-based therapy by relating intervention programs to curricular outcomes.
  • Identifies physical therapy goals for the child's individualized family service plan (IFSP) or individualized education program (IEP).
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication, human relations, and time management skills.
  • Provides physical therapy services in a variety of settings including school, home and community.
  • Provides physical therapy interventions that enable children with disabilities to benefit from special education and to participate in the natural/general education environment.
  • Provides consultation to team members on reinforcement of strategies and use of adaptive equipment for functional mobility, positioning, and safe participation in daily activities.
  • Maintains communication with parents to discuss progress on goals and provide activities for home to reinforce skills.
  • Completes required documentation including evaluations, progress notes, service logs, IEPS, IFSPs and quarterly progress reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participates in staff meetings and professional development activities.
  • Participates in IFSP and IEP meetings, team meetings and parent conferences.
  • Supervises services provided by physical therapy students and physical therapy assistants.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the supervisor.  
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  •  
  • Working knowledge of the field of physical therapy, child development, educational disabilities, and legal regulations regarding early intervention and special education.
  • Ability to apply skills to school-based therapy by relating intervention programs to curricular outcomes.
  • Ability to provide early intervention services in the home and community settings.
  • Effective oral and written communication, human relations, and time management skills.
  • Degree from an accredited college or university in physical therapy.
  • Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.) Stooping, bending, and standing for extended periods; may require lifting and transfers to use equipment and adaptive devices.
  • Additional knowledge of neuro-developmental treatment and educational based therapy desirable.
  • Current licensure from the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. DUTY YEAR AND SALARY:

            This is an 11 month position. Salary is commensurate with experience.
