POSITION: Childcare Teacher
LOCATION: Worcester Technical High School – The Nest Early Learning Center
GENERAL JOB DECRIPTION:
Childcare teachers perform all duties necessary to ensure that children’s basic needs are taken care of, cultivate a safe and educational environment for young children to grow and learn, utilize prescribed curriculum as trained, identify and address behavioral problems, maintain progress reports, and communicate with parents effectively.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Ensure a safe, happy, stimulating, and sanitary environment for children.
- Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of COMAR.
- Provide basic care for children which includes feeding, grooming, and changing diapers.
- Develop age-appropriate socialization skills in children.
- Encourage positive behavior and good manners.
- Use various learning methods such as stories, games, and drawing to intellectually stimulate children.
- Identify behavioral problems and develop appropriate strategies to address them.
- Attend staff meetings, conferences, and workshops.
- Hold regular parent/teacher meetings to address any issues, concerns, or parent complaints.
- Maintain open, consistent, and effective communication with parents.
- Observe and assist youth apprentices in their roles.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma.
- Childcare professional certification is advantageous.
- Proven experience working as a childcare teacher.
- Certification in first aid and CPR is preferred.
- Must meet minimum requirements for Preschool Teacher as defined by MSDE Office of Childcare.
- In-depth understanding of childhood development.
- Strong conflict resolution skills.
- Accepts and respects differences in children, families, and coworkers.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Attentive and patient.
- Friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Maintain a professional appearance, attitude, and work ethic always.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to bend, stoop, stand, and lift 25-50 lbs. daily
DUTY YEAR AND SALARY:
This is an hourly, contractual position working 12-months with healthcare benefits and accrued sick leave. Hourly pay is $20.00.
