POSITION:    School Secretary/Bookkeeper – Grade 6 (12-Month)

 

LOCATION: Pocomoke Elementary School

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

           

Working under the school principal's direction, performs various accounting and administrative functions to assemble, prepare, process, and maintain school financial records.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:

 

  • Performs basic bookkeeping duties requiring experience and judgment to ensure successful operation within the school's budget constraints.
  • Processes complicated or nonrepetitive bookkeeping transactions and determines discrepancies.
  • Verifies consistency and mathematical accuracy of bookkeeping documents.
  • Reports payroll, cash receipts, and deposits in accordance with county policy and procedures, as outlined in the bookkeeping and payroll manuals.
  • Provides general secretarial and clerical support.
  • Performs a variety of secretarial duties, such as composing and typing routine letters, memos, and reports.
  • Responds to routine inquiries.
  • Collects and records data as necessary and maintains appropriate files and records.
  • Answers and screens telephone calls and takes messages.
  • Prepares and distributes correspondence, forms, documents, and reports as appropriate.
  • Greets the public, answers questions, and directs individuals to appropriate persons.
  • Maintains inventories and orders and distributes material as necessary.
  • Advise the Principal on auditing requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • AA degree or equivalency in Accounting or Business preferred.
  • Above-average computer skills.
  • Ability to relate well with the general public, students, and staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and QuickBooks.
  • Knowledge of an attendance management system is helpful but not required.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of standard bookkeeping procedures and practices.
  • Two or more years of successful bookkeeping experience.

DUTY YEAR AND SALARY:

 

            This is a 12-month benefited non-exempt position associated with the Worcester County Educational Support Personnel (WCESPA) negotiated agreement. Salary will be based on experience directly related to bookkeeping and paid from the Grade 6 secretarial salary scale. Current salary range ($31,002.00 to $52,162.00)
